Doris' take

In response to query about whether to have reunion 2006. It will be very hard for people coming in from out of town, unless they family they can stay with. Hotel-Motel accomodations are almost impossible. Also all entertainment spots are full with locals and relief helpers in most areas where they exist. My opinion is it would not be prudent to have a reunion this year. Doris Lyons

Good to see input Ms. Doris and I agree to a point. Almost all the people coming into town know or have family available to "shack up" with so I don't feel housing is that important but entertainment which should have little real value is very limited. The picnic is the real draw and as we have already learned it's "ON" as for as I'm concerned. Some of us are scheduled for that time and organized or not will be there. Let's leave it up to fate, charma, or luck of the draw to decide how successful this year gathering will be. I'll bring a coulpe extra hotdogs/cokes/beer cupcakes and towels for whoever. See ya if your there.

Hi Susan:
Forgive my delay but even as a local resident I am not aware of the
local cities' plans since they change from day to day in the Sun Herald.

I know that casinoes and their hotels are opening weekly and I believe
we will have 6 or 8 ready by Labor Day, but for some strange reason, so
few of us have gotten into the old habit of visiting them often to
either gamble or just for their buffet (which is the spot we always used
when we had out-of-town company == another thing that we are all
missing).

The beaches are still used by the N.O. visitors even tho there are only
3 or 4 sections where they are allowed and no one is allowed in the
water since the Coast Guard has not started their under- water cleanup
in the Gulf.

The nite life is very limited but the youth can always find spots to
enjoy their partying and the paper even does the advertising by having
groups photoed at the "hot spots."

The Ship Island boat in back in action and I've heard it has a big
clientel. The Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo next week has moved out to N.
Gulfport at the Sportsplex since there is no pavilion, bathrooms or
electricity down at the harbor and does that tick off the old locals who
knew no other place for it but Jones Park!!!!!.

Sorry that my info is so depressing, but we all still cry as we drive
along the beach (and really avoid it by taking Pass Road) but it will
take time to get up and running but that we will. 2007 will be a
bigger and better reunion!!! Marie Hayes
