Why not offer an opinion about what is going on with the environment rather than attempt to quell the dialog about it?
This place has been a ghost town for months; at least there's some activity.
There is a page where this topic has been tracked for years, and it too has been a ghost town.
Another member of the CP community decided to bring the topic up here and personally insult me while denying the source of the problem in its entirety. It deserved a response, I'm sorry if it bothers you. But it wasn't intended for you.
As much as I would love to live in an orderly, peaceful world of milk and honey, or participate in an active community blog with people who take an interest in thoughtfully discussing common issues, it is neither without at least some stimulation toward that end.
Don't like the animated gif? There's hope...as new posts are made older posts eventually move off the home page. Which is to say this too will pass...
Happy New Year from Montana where the snow is deep and the thrills are cheap!
Ah, Jay, what you take as an insult isn't an insult to you personally. What anonymous voiced as lies was towards the propaganda we all fall victim to, whether it be the weapons of mass distruction or our lifestyles are destroying the atmosphere. There is propaganda that is spread. I see anonymous as trying to get people to open their eyes, their ears, their hearts and judge the situations by studying both sides of any issue.
I did offer my opinion, but you chose to breeze over it.
If one feels there is a problem, then say what we can do, or the steps personally being taken to alleviate the situation. Screaming out how we are all idiots isn't a solution.
LOL, so where do you get that I am taking the side of anonymous? I merely gave my opinion of what I read in the posted words.
I also gave several opinions in my post Back on track. hmmm, just goes to show how little value opinions are worth.
Nice write up about the freedom of speech, especially considering the author is also the one who has chastised those who are not in agreement with the author's opinion, which really makes posting uninviting.
When I am ready, I'll post my opinion regarding global warming on the site where it belongs.
Su, if posting here is so uninviting, why have you posted and commented more in the past week than the entire prior year?
Nobody has attacked, judged or impugned your integrity. And nobody has said you are a lone idiot. We're all idiots if anything in this game of Russian roulette we're playing with the planet. Get it?
I'm doing my best to move past "opinion" as a way of reckoning what is true and false about earth issues. Opinions? They're about as valuable as week-old Twinkies.
Meanwhile, the truth is that every last one of us is more or less attacking the planet to pad our lifestyle and getting angry when someone else notices what's happening and has the nerve to do something and the temerity to say something about it.
Sorry if you don't like the brazen methods, but the elaborate workarounds of denial and entrenchment must be fought with tools that are up to the task. And sometimes that means shoveling away the shit.
I don't breeze over anything you have to say because I don't do breeze very well. I thought you knew this much about me.
The opinion you posted was:
"...people have ignored how our selfish lifestyles affects this earth's delicate balance."
Of course I agree with this general opinion. Who wouldn't? Not acknowledging it is hardly breezing over. The agreement was tacit.
I have a personal view that doesn't speak for anyone else and actually takes a measure of responsibility instead of handing it off to the straw-man pronoun "people":
"I have ignored how my selfish lifestyle affects this earth's delicate balance, and I'm committed to doing something (many things, actually) about it."
Not everyone is or must remain "...a victim of propaganda" or be guilty of falling in love with their own opinions on public fora. I detest having to be the fomenter of this discussion, but somebody needs to float it.
Propaganda is easily rebutted. Truth is much more durable. And the truth is, you and me and Peter OC to name a few CPers, are causing global warming (to the nth power). I'm not shirking this realization with a bunch of mumbo jumbo.
We obviously have far bigger battles to fight than he said, she said.
Please help me by contributing what you can, here or on the other page.
My shallow attempts to shame J in his defination of the "truth" has accomplished little of my desired affect.I chalk it up to my lack of or "pour common scents". Su's desire is to display your "zeal" for said "truth" comes from a compassionate heart. More of a grandmotherly attempt to get two boys to quit fighting I think. J's sophicated interpetation of all the worlds problem showcases his sophicated defination of "truth". All characteristics admiral in my opinion. Worst case senerio enviromentalism conquered the Atomic energy of the 60's. It slammed domestic oil drilling and global cooling of the 70's and the alternative fuels of the 80's gave us ethanol. It's a poor substitute for gas but did increase the price of a taco. Overall advancements in the 90's brought us to the point we can communicate freely literally second to second. My desire is a simple one. Don't distort the facts. There little or no reason to. I would like to predict for 08 this: the poor WILL suffer from all the programs suggested for the future. Taxing and punishing Big industry never hurts Big industry. They'll pass it down everytime on EVERY occassion. No matter how sophicated you wish to portray the facts the worst case scenerio never seems to reel it's ugly head. The poorest always suffer the worst. Some advancement huh.Find a better spokesman than Ali Gore....please.
Repeated from the previous post LOL, actually, I don't care if you two continue to duke it out, I just don't feel the CP page is the place for it. I figured Jay would understand this since he is in marketing. One of the main rules is to understand the projected audience. We don't want to scare folks from attending the reunion because they fear they will get bullied into taking sides. Besides, from what I can see the you both agree on the main issues - Global warming does exist People are arrogant polluters If you want to argue about the "Whys" then that is your business. It just seems like alot of wasted energy. Oh yeah, that could be a third thing to agree on - People waste alot of energy. LOL, can't help but love you two.
Added....Metaphor - This is the Lounge for all to gather to have a good time. If you want to brawl take it outside.
(shoot if you open another site to continue your arguments, I might put in my own jabs at both of your sides. Those who want to come watch are welcomed, but the "Rosemary Collins" aren't force to read through of the insulting dialog)

As much as I love to see both your handsome mugs, this video clip really grates on one's nerves.

Take up the cause of an anonymous poster whose insults were indeed personal. And instigated by same.
If I'm spreading propaganda, take me to task over it. If someone else is propagandizing, say so.
Idiots don't have conversations. People do. Thanks for showing up to the party!
