We'll miss you Debbie Stanbro

Debbie Stanbro rockin' the Fire Dog, August 2004

I received word from Reilly Morse today that Debbie Stanbro has passed away and gone to the big Blues Palace in the sky. Here's a short vid from the 2004 reunion of her singing a verse of Me and Bobby McGee.

We will miss the beautiful celebration of song she brought into our lives.
Mississippi Son

Mississippi Son tells the heartwrenching and heartwarming stories of loss, fear, courage, and hope in the wake of the worst natural disaster in American history, Hurricane Katrina. To this day, the media, the Small Business Administration, the insurance companies, and FEMA have neglected and mistreated the victims. Promised funds have not come through – grants have turned into "negative grants" – and all while billions continue to pour into war. Mississippi Son is a deep, powerful, and meaningful message: we must not forget the people of the Mississippi Gulf Coast. They still need our help – they have largely been abandoned by government agencies and the insurance industry. Emmy award winning director/editor, Don Wilson, was born and raised in Gulfport, Mississippi. The film has an original blues-rock film score composed and recorded by professional musicians who survived the storm. (95 minutes)

"The Executive Director of the festival, Elizabeth English, called us personally to ask us to submit our film score after she heard it. We were incredibly honored. To be chosen as a Finalist is just icing on the cake," said Mississippi Son director Don Wilson. "I produced the soundtrack, but I want to give all the credit to our Music Supervisor Kim Hoyt. I also want to congratulate the musicians Bill Hoyt, Debbie Stanbro, Dave Lacy, Rochelle Harper, Fort Bayou Slim, and Mr. Mark. Moondance is called 'The American Cannes' and industry insiders rank it only behind Sundance and Cannes in terms of importance to a filmmaker's career. Obviously, this is an incredible honor - way beyond anything we could have imagined for our little film."

Directed by: Don Wilson
Produced by Leslie Wilson

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - Film Americana, a division of Americana Media Inc., proudly announces that the nation's largest video-on-demand company, TVN, will be licensing Mississippi Son for television broadcast in February 2008.
Maybe we can all tune in. A wonderful tribute to a life well lived.
