Well Folks, its 2006! Oh My! What a year 2005 was! Let’s just say that those of us whose roots are in Gulfport have felt a shift in our values. In a few short hours, Katrina’s winds dispersed our College Park crew further than 30+ years of living.

This being said, there are many of us who are expecting College Park Reunion 2006 to happen, eager to touch base those who mean so much to us. The question is whether we can make this happen.

Realities are that 120 days after the storm, many of our friends who lost everything are living in FEMA trailers, tents, with relatives or have been displaced out-of-state. The hotels we frequented are gone. Gulfport-Biloxi Airport is opened, and New Orleans Airport is operating at 50%. Spyders, TO’s, and Firedog are gone. Jim Bob’s was flooded and still in need of restoration. Two of the casinos have opened, with a third following suit shortly. Their business is better than prior Katrina due to tourists taking in the devastation and causing traffic to be atrocious.

The bright light is that College Park is in wonderful shape in comparison to the rest of the coast. There will be no problem with having our picnic on the old community center grounds.

More than ever we need feedback. We need to know how everyone feels. Will this be an inconvenience or a welcome diversion? Will many of our friends be unable to attend due to the financial strains? Please make use of the Blog that Jay Toups created to give us your opinions. http://collegepark.blogspot.com/

I propose that if we do go through with having the reunion we use the Labor Day, September 1st through the 4th. Hopefully, by then, the improvements to the area will be noticeable.

Please let us hear your voices.

Hi,
My mom, dad and brother Larry had a great time at the last reunion and have spread the word. My family and I are going to try and make it for the 2006 reunion. I have been through the old neighborhood a few times in the past few years but have never had the time to stay and enjoy the memories. I look forward to attending Mass and walking around St. James Elementary. It was a great place to grow up....
